Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Videoconference
Host sites will include Community Partnerships and the Wilmington CDSA.
Alcohol use during pregnancy is the leading known preventable cause of mental retardation in the United States. The birth defects resulting from alcohol use during pregnancy will be outlined. This workshop will help participants understand the diagnosis of FASD, the referral and evaluation process for FASD and the trends, costs, impacts, and preventions of this disorder.
This session will offer participants .2 credits toward Infant Toddler Certification under the Intervention Strategies Competency Area.
It is aimed toward Early Intervention Service Coordinators, Developmental Therapists, counselors, educators, school nurses, administrators, health educators, and other EI professionals who work with the community of children and families.
Presentation by Leslie D. McCroy, LPC, LCAS, CCS, the Project Director of the North Carolina Teratogen Information Services at Mission's Fullerton Genetics Center.

Developng Local Systems of Care for Children with Mental Health Needs
The 2008 Georgetown University Training Institutes will be held July 16-20, 2008 in Nashville, TN at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. This Institute offers an opportunity to obtain in-depth, practical information on how to develop and operate comprehensive, coordinated, community-based systems of care and how to provide high-quality, effective, clinical interventions and supports within them. The Institute is designed for state and local administrators, clinicians, case managers, families, educators and those concerned with improving services for children and families.
The Institute is currently accepting proposals for the conference until October 25th. Registration information will be available after the first of the year.

UNC Hospitals will be hosting a 2 day course on Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders: A Medical, Motor, Behavioral Approach. The course will be Aug. 8 - 9, 2008. This course will review oral-motor and swallowing techniques, respiration, GI issues, nutrition, motor/postural alignment, and behavioral strategies. This course focuses on how to approach pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders; how to diagnose and prioritize treatment options ensuring successful outcomes for you and your patients. Introduction to Consultation
Offered by the Partnerships for Inclusion
Join your colleagues for Partnerships for Inclusion’s statewide consultation training opportunity. If you provide consultation in early childhood programs, are interested in learning an effective approach to creating change and improving your skills as a consultant, and you have not attended one of PFI’s consultation courses in the past two to three years, then this training event is for you! This two-day course provides a framework for collaborative consultation. This training is appropriate for consultants who provide consultation to early care and education providers to enhance the overall program quality, the quality of care for infants and toddlers, the social-emotional development of young children, or to include a child with special needs.
The training will be held at The Partnership of Children of Johnston County, Selma, NC.

Family Fun Night
Enjoy an evening of playtime entirely for kids with special needs! Marbles Kids Museum opens its doors after-hours for the special needs community. Kids from birth to 12 years old with special needs, along with their families, are invited to experienence the museum in a calmer, less-crowded environment.
Family Fun Night Highlights: -Museum exhibits that offer opportunities for the kids to enhance language development and social skills through purposeful play. -Resource information for special needs families -Tools to help get the most out of the special visit -A sensory "cool down" space for kids who may become overstimulated
